Audition Procedures and Preparation
Application Process
The application process consists of an online application form, E-mailing your preferred audition date, a printed and signed supplemental application page and a non-refundable application fee of $20. The online application form is needed to acquire an audition date and time. You must have the signed supplemental application page and application fee at the audition. Step One: Complete this LSWO Youth Winds Online Application Form. Click here. Step Two: After registering online, you will need to contact the LSWO Youth Winds Artistic Administrators Andrew and Kendal Tucker ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) with your preferred audition date. He will contact you in return to confirm your date and time. The options are listed here: Audition dates will be: Auditions are held in the band hall at Richardson High School in Richardson. Step Three: Print out this LSWO Youth Winds Supplemental Application Signature Page. Click here. Fill it out completely. Signatures are needed from the applicant, a parent/guardian and the applicant's band director. Step Four: There is a non-refundable, non-transferable application fee of $20. This must accompany the supplemental signature page on the day of the audition. You will not be able to audition without the signature page and fee on hand. Currently, we only accept checks, payable to "Lone Star Wind Orchestra." Invitations to join the LSWO Youth Winds will be sent out via email once all the auditions have concluded. Note: For those applicants selected to the LSWO Youth Winds, a $475 tuition payment is required to complete the process and secure the student musician's spot in the ensemble. The applicant's tuition will be used for Lone Star Wind Orchestra operating expenses to provide the LSWO Youth Winds with, among others, venue space to perform, mentors to give instruction and guest artists to enhance the student musician's experience.

The Concerto Competition is designed to promote a high level of artistic achievement by facilitating the young musician’s talent and work ethic through the preparation of an advanced level concerto. To be involved in this competition, the student musician must be an active member of the LSWO Youth Winds. Eligible literature must be 6-10 minute concerto/work/UIL Class 1 composition for solo/small ensemble and wind band, however, the composition must have an available accompaniment for wind band. The winner receives the opportunity to perform the solo with the LSWO Youth Winds on the May concert, acknowledgement in the May playbill as a guest artist, and acknowledgement on the LSWO website as winner of the competition.
