The Lone Star Wind Orchestra partners with its musicians, patrons and audience to provide a world-class musical contribution to the cultural life of the North Texas community with opportunities for artistic growth through creative programming, excellence in performance, community collaboration and educational outreach.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES
To realize our vision, we follow seven guiding principles:

1.  
   1. Create a memorable music experience that will have an educational and informative impact on the lives of our audience and the community.
   2. Provide an outlet for gifted musicians to share their talent, further our mission, and have an active voice in the growth and expansion of the organization.
   3. Assist in the music education of young people — the future generation of adult musicians and arts advocates — through the presentation of concerts, scholarships and clinics.
   4. Collaborate with outreach organizations that provide the economically disadvantaged and underserved an opportunity to experience quality musical performances and educational seminars.
   5. Commit to performance excellence, diversity, creativity and integrity.
   6. Commission new works and produce reference recordings of the highest quality and merit for the wind band medium.
   7. Program a variety of repertoire that will appeal to a diverse population and preserve the medium that has become a uniquely American art form.

HISTORY

The Lone Star Wind Orchestra was founded on April 27, 2006 by Robert Clark, Barry Knezek and Christopher Tucker. The driving force behind forming this new performing ensemble was the collective agreement between founders to build the wind orchestra from a player’s perspective and be a vital participant in the North Texas arts community. Among the organization’s many achievements, the Lone Star Wind Orchestra has initiated the “Band Rewards” program which gives local music programs an opportunity to raise funds for their programs through ticket sales, expanded the organization’s successful “Lone Star Kids” program providing a concert experience to Title-I music programs, and presented nine “Music Changing Lives” scholarships to deserving high school seniors.

The Lone Star Wind Orchestra completed its first professionally recorded CD, “American Tapestry,” in April 2008 which is being distributed nationally by the Naxos record label under the Wind Band Classics series. The LSWO also has commissioned new works for wind band by composers Donald Grantham and Cindy McTee. In the summer of 2008, the Lone Star Wind Orchestra appointed Eugene Migliaro Corporon as the organization’s first Music Director and Conductor. The Lone Star Wind Orchestra made its way back to San Antonio, Texas this July as the featured ensemble for the 2010 Texas Bandmasters Association Convention performing for more then 3,000 attendees, including premiering Frank Ticheli’s San Antonio Dances. These accomplishments are in addition to the numerous programs performed for free to community outreach groups and organizations. The Lone Star Wind Orchestra has partnered with outreach organizations such as Artreach and The Senior Source to provide over 2,500 free performance tickets to the artistically underserved in North Texas.

“Music Changing Lives” is one message the LSWO tries to instill in our audience members as the organization feels it can be role models for young students and encourage the pursuit of music involvement as a life-long passion.
